Joe Ellis, a hard working promoter with a goal in mind; Joe has built from a dream, an event that is a progressive and friendly event for all. The event venue is top notch, the hospitality is friendly, and awards are plentiful and nice. Joe tries very hard to accommodate every competitor in any way possible. In beautiful San Diego Joe has brought to the community an event to brag about. In his second year he has more than doubled the AKA American Open in numbers and excitement. Working with the Padres and other entertainment venues in the area there is plenty for visitors to enjoy over the Labor Day weekend. Joe and the AKA American Open are well on their way to a World Class event. Congratulations go out to Joe and his staff for a great job.

The AKA American Open is the type of event we choose to work with and appreciate when this caliber event comes along. The tournament circuit needs more events like this - events that service the competitors' needs and operate with state-of-the-art standards. The SMAA Sports Martial Arts Association is proud to welcome and congratulate Joe Ellis and the AKA American Open into the tournament world.
The AKA American Open San Diego, a 2011 NASKA (North American Sport Karate Association) AAA event was proof that Hard Work, professionalism in operating and organizing will pay off! With over 50% increase in number of competitors & doubling it's overall attendance, this is the testimony to where the tournament is headed. Congratulations to Joe Ellis the promoter and all the staff & officials for a job well done!
